ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT
Emmanuel Episcopal Church · emmanuelstaunton.org · Last Updated: August 17, 2026
Our Commitment
Emmanuel Episcopal Church is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We believe that the message and mission of this church should be available to everyone — including those who rely on assistive technologies — and we are continually working to improve the experience for all visitors to our website.
Conformance Status
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as our target standard. We are actively working toward conformance and welcome feedback on any barriers you encounter. Our website is built on the Wix platform and relies on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It is intended to be compatible with commonly used browsers and assistive technologies, including screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some limitations may currently exist:
-
Uploaded PDF documents — including Sunday bulletins and rector search materials — may not be fully screen-reader compatible. We are working to remediate these and will provide accessible alternatives upon request.
-
Some images on the site may not yet have complete alternative text descriptions.
-
Third-party embedded content, including our YouTube livestream player, Realm giving portal, Constant Contact newsletter signup, and SignUpGenius volunteer forms, may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA standards, as these are governed by their respective platforms. Our contact form is provided through Wix and may present accessibility challenges on some assistive technology combinations.
No other significant barriers have been identified at this time. We update this statement as issues are identified and resolved.
What We Are Doing
-
Reviewing our site against WCAG 2.1 Level AA criteria on an ongoing basis
-
Providing meaningful alt text for images used in our content
-
Ensuring sufficient color contrast and readable font sizes throughout the site
-
Working with Wix's built-in accessibility tools and guidelines
-
Offering accessible versions of key documents upon request
-
We do not use accessibility overlay widgets, which do not constitute genuine WCAG conformance
