Bishop Powell, kids Reception for Bishop

The Right Reverend F. Neff Powell, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia, visited Emmanuel on Sunday, December 7, the Second Sunday in Advent. At the end of the service, he sat down with the children and talked about the life and work of Saint Nicholas. Afterwards, he joined church members at a reception held in his honor.


Emmanuel Harvest Band

This year's Harvest Day, November 9, featured folk music from Emmanuel's own "Harvest Band": Randy Hamblett, Matthew Poteat, Mary Evans Lott, and Sarah Groves-Humphries.


Emmanuel's youth group PAX held a very successful STOP HUNGER NOW event on Sunday, Sept. 7 at Emmanuel, in cooperation with other church congregations.

Angel stain glass window

The restoration work on the main "Emmanuel" stained glass window was completed in mid-summer, along with the Angel baptistry stained glass window at the right front side of the church. This work was expertly done by Raynal Studios, www.raynalstudios.com.

2008 Diocesan council, in Roanoke. The Right Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church U.S.A. was the keynote speaker and officiant at the Cathedral services, along with Bishop Neff Powell.
