The Church seasons

Season How it is determined
Advent The beginning of the church year, four Sundays prior to Christmas Day
Christmas December 25 through January 5 (The Twelve Days of Christmas!)
Epiphany January 6 (The arrival of the Three Kings through Shrove Tuesday, a.k.a. Mardi Gras.)
Lent The forty days (excluding Sundays) from Ash Wednesday through the Great Vigil, just before Easter.
(Holy Week) The last seven days of Lent, from Palm Sunday to the Great Vigil on Saturday.
Easter Easter Sunday (earliest is March 22; latest is April 25), the Day of Resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and the 50 days thereafter.
Pentecost (Trinity) From the Day of Pentecost * (formerly called "Whitsunday"), when the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles, and for at least 22 but not more than 27 Sundays thereafter

The Church calendar is based upon Easter Sunday, which is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal (spring) equinox. The "movable feasts" are: Easter, Septuagesima Sunday, Ash Wednesday, Ascension Day, Pentecost, and Advent Sunday.

* For the Day of Pentecost itself, the ecclesiastical color is RED.
